Quantum rotations of nanoparticles

چکیده
Rotations of microscale rigid bodies exhibit pronounced quantum phenomena that do not exist for their centre-of-mass motion. By levitating nanoparticles in ultra-high vacuum, researchers are developing a promising platform observing and exploiting these effects an unexplored mass size regime. Recent experimental theoretical breakthroughs demonstrate exquisite control nanoscale rotations, setting the stage first tabletop tests rotational superpositions next generation ultra-precise torque sensors. Here, we review state art discuss routes towards rotations. The rotations levitated particles can show effects, enabling physics measurements with unprecedented sensitivity. Breakthroughs cooling controlling nanorotors set such experiments.

We discuss Wick rotations in the context of gravity, with emphasis on a non-perturbative Wick rotation proposed in hep-th/0103186 mapping real Lorentzian metrics to real Euclidean metrics in proper-time coordinates.
